After breaking camp in the morning of day 2, looking west (downriver) from bluffs about 100-200 feet above river elevation..
This is the sandbar that we camped on for night 1 and night 3. Night one campsite is at the bottom (zoomin on next image).

Looking north (upriver). This is where the Colorado River bends westward to head through the main canyon. But up from here it runs southward.
A giant 1-km-long gravel bar in the river, next to which was some hair-raisingly treacherous trails in cliffs overlooking the river.
The trail went through this pretty red Grand Canyon Supergroup sandstone and shale.

The others hiked an additional 6-7 miles out to the Little Colorado River confluence, and then back again. I wasn't up to it, so I stayed here on the beach. I set up this little shelter from the sun to stay cool and not get sunburned.

Great illumination on the Coconino Sandstone clifftops in the evening. I miss skies being this blue.
