Large -- Medium Grapevine Rapids in the Colorado River, from a beautiful jut a day's hike from the nearest person. In contrast to the freeway that was the Kaibab, the East Tonto Trail is desolate and remote. While this freed us from annoying marathoners and day hikers, it meant that we had to haul our own water most of the way. At Phantom Ranch we loaded up with 2.5 gallons of water (20 lbs) per person and then had to hike up 1500 feet and 10 miles. |
